PILC is looking for people who will stand in the gap as Community Advocates. What does it mean to be an advocate?
An advocate speaks up – for a person, or for an issue that needs changing. Advocating for people with disabilities has always been at the core of what we do.
How do we advocate?
• We strive to be a voice in society and raise awareness for people with disabilities.
• We work to change systems that make life more difficult for people living with disabilities.
• We help people living with a disability learn the independent skills necessary to take care of their basic needs.
• We believe in, stand for, and work to establish the dignity of every human being and to show the world that someone with a disability has every right and capability as someone who does not have a disability.
Our volunteers are a key component in PILC being able to service more and more consumers. We are looking for volunteers who have a passion about serving and who have a heart for the Independent Living Movement. If you have skills, talents, or abilities that you would like to donate to PILC, we’d love for you to be a volunteer. We’re currently looking for volunteers for the following areas:
Marketing, Social Media, Special Events, Fundraising, Recruiting, Arts and Crafts, Cooking Classes, Special Projects, Community Education, Admin/Clerical, Phone Calls, and Website Management
